I've talked to a lot of my tutors the last week and they've got me thinking about a variety of things. Jill asked me whether I plan to actually change the story of Mary Poppins and this go me thinking about giving my comic more of a contemporary narrative arc. This would include a big reveal or some kind of twist most likely as seemingly everything these days can't be as they seem. I may also change little bits to increase the tempo as typically films these days play out faster than older ones.
Bob and Ian got me thinking about the range of marks I'm using to show different textures and layers in each of my panels. They also suggested I try going more loose with how I depict the drug hallucinations to give more of an unearthly vibe to those scenes. Here's an example of a reworking of the first scene to try and achieve this.
Christian said I need to work on a bigger scale. He says if you want to do an A4 comic then you need to work on an A3 sized space on an A2 piece of paper, so that you have a sort of margin. I haven't decided yet if I want to do an A4 or A5 comic or really anything about a finished comic product as when I started this I just drew pages as a way of sorting out ideas. My next step is definitely figuring out what I want the comic to be like in the wider sense, not just what's on the page.
I've also thought about using ink in my work just to convey pieces of block black in the background as this takes a long time with pen and may also help add more depth to my panels as there would a wider variety of marks.
Your recent work on the comic is really excellent and you have some great ideas going on. You are spoiling one of our fave films though!!
